Recycling Industrial Platinum
Hundreds of metric tons of platinum enter the market every year and we can help you turn some of this very expensive metal into capital with our recycling process. Platinum is the most valuable metal we work with and has the highest melting point of over 3,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Recycling platinum can be done on premises at Manhattan Gold & Silver
Until 2008, the price of platinum was relatively stable, but that year it fluctuated extremely—peaking at $2,200 per ounce and hitting a low of $750 per ounce. 2008 platinum prices were atypical, to say the least. In order to make steady sense of market volatility, our rates are set daily to the London Gold Exchange, but prices can be adjusted if there are drastic changes in the market. We want you to feel comfortable and secure when you come to us with questions about recycling platinum.
Platinum is popular in industrial applications because of its high resistance to chemicals, high temperature characteristics, and stable electrical properties.
Some items we accept for recycling platinum include:
- Jewelry filings.
- Polishing material.
- Medical products.
- Electronic components.
- Platinum bullion, including:
- American Platinum Eagles
- Canadian Platinum Maple Leaves
- Australian Platinum Koalas
South African mines control the majority of the platinum production in the world, which contributes to the rarity and notoriety of this metal.
Platinum Purity
While bullion coins are typically at least 99% pure, platinum used in rings and settings for jewelry is usually 90-95% pure, with newer platinum pieces falling on the higher end of that spectrum. Bars can also be tested for purity, and are commonly made 99.9% pure.
We have compiled a Platinum Purity Chart (below) for your reference.
